Trevor Noah has surprised viewers with a big announcement on his show.
South African comedian and American satirical talk show host The daily show announced on today’s episode that she will soon be out after taking over from fellow comedian Jon Stewart seven years ago.
Reflecting on her birthday coming up on the show, she told the audience: ‘I found myself thinking back over time, everything we’ve been through… and I realized that after seven years, my time is over”.
He added that he “loved hosting the show,” calling it one of his “greatest challenges” and “joys.”
“After seven years, I feel like it’s time,” she continued, describing that she wants to explore other parts of her life and misses “learning other languages and going to other countries and putting on shows and being all over the place doing everything “.
He added: “I’m so grateful for all the people who are here and even the people who aren’t there because they did great things. It’s weird to say, I’m not good at goodbyes and it’s not instant, I’m not disappearing , do not you worry.
“I’m so grateful to a network that believed in this random comic that no one knew on this side of the world.”
Noah, 38, also said he “never dreamed” of being in the position he was in, and told the audience he won’t be leaving until they find his replacement.
Moments before his announcement, a source told Decider that Noah would announce his departure from the show during the episode.
Paramount later confirmed the news to Variety with a statement saying, “We are grateful to Trevor for our incredible partnership over the past seven years.
“With no timetable for his departure, we are working together on the next steps. As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in “The Daily Show’s” 25-plus year history as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and funny social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world that surrounds them”.
In 2015, the South African comedian took over The daily show under much scrutiny.
Many viewers took issue with Stewart’s replacement after old tweets that could be considered anti-Semitic resurfaced. Some of his old routines also surfaced where he made seemingly derogatory jokes about Indigenous women.
he said variety in 2020, “I will say that the first two years were horrible, and it was horrible because I had taken over one of the most beloved institutions in America.
“And even though Jon Stewart had passed the reins to me, it was essentially a year of people telling me that I shouldn’t be doing the job and that I wasn’t worthy of being in that seat. And I just kept believing it.”
Noah’s professional life isn’t the only thing that’s changing, as he’s rumored to be dating pop singer Dua Lipa, 27.
The two were spotted out on a romantic dinner date in New York City on Wednesday night.
“They were sitting quietly away from everyone else in the restaurant,” said an eyewitness daily mail, who was the first to share pictures of their evening. “It was clear they were into each other and they sat together for the whole lunch.”
The source further revealed that the two “left together and walked,” stopping a few times “for long hugs” and even “kissed.”
