UPDATE: Two children die after Glanbrook farm incident

Two children have died after paramedics took them to hospital following an all-terrain vehicle accident at a farm in Glanbrook, according to Hamilton police.

“We are heartbroken by this tragic incident,” Supt. Treena MacSween in a post on Twitter Saturday afternoon.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends (and) first responders during this difficult time.”

Emergency crews, including police, paramedics and firefighters, responded to a water rescue call on Miles Road shortly after 4pm on Saturday to search for two people.

“It’s an accident on a farm here,” said Sgt. Tim Knapp told The Spectator around 5 p.m

About two hours later, Hamilton EMS said three people — two children and an adult — were in the hospital.

“We have transported two patients to the local hospital in critical life-threatening condition with resuscitation efforts underway,” said Supt. David Thompson said through text messages from young patients.

One man was in stable condition, Thompson added, but noted that he did not immediately have further information.

Paramedics, he said earlier, had been called to help police and firefighters find two people.

Police cruisers blocked access to the distant scene awash with the flashing lights of emergency vehicles between Airport and White Church roads.

In a brief press release, police noted that the children had died, but did not provide details about the ATV crash or the water rescue.

“Police are continuing to investigate,” the statement said. Anyone with information to help police with the investigation is asked to call Division 3 Staff Sgt. at 905-546-3886.

Bystander calls to police for more details were not returned Saturday afternoon. An email to the fire department was not immediately returned.
