After a wild 2021-22 season, it’s time to focus all our attention on the 2022 NBA Draft Thursday night. Several exciting prospects will headline the league’s low-season event, including Chet Holmgren (Gonzaga), Jabari Smith (Auburn), Paolo Banchero (Duke) and Jaden Ivey (Purdue). Who will be the first selected overall is a no-brainer, but these four players will soon hear their names from NBA commissioner Adam Silver.
The Orlando Magic have the best overall draft pick for the first time since 2004. After Orlando, the Oklahoma City Thunder pick second, followed by the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons to complete the top five. While the order is set, anything can happen during the draft, as the teams are busy working the phones to rotate and hand out selections. Several changes have already been made before the draft, as the Lakers acquired the 35th selection of the Magic, while the Cavaliers handed out their second round to the Kings. The Portland Trail Blazers also changed their 2025 first-round pick to the Detroit Pistons for Jerami Grant.
