Nunavut sees a sharp rise in respiratory illnesses

There have been more cases of respiratory illness in Nunavut this spring than in the past two years together, according to the Territory Health Department, Nunatsiaq News reports.

This includes the flu and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, for which 126 laboratory-confirmed cases were reported between April 1 and May 21 this year. In comparison, during the same seven-week period of 2019, the department said, only 56 cases were reported.

To provide children with the best protection against serious illness due to RSV, the government said it will immediately restart its vaccination program with Palivizumab.
