Updates from Ottawa Public

Neighborhood health and wellness centers

Our neighborhood health and wellness centers are made for the community, in the community. Residents can access health, mental health, community and social services at select center locations, including required school immunizations, COVID-19 vaccination, mental health support, dental screenings , parent care services in Ottawa, as well as social and employment services. Residents can also visit a center to speak with a public health nurse about their health questions and concerns. For more information about the hubs, see our Neighborhood Health and Wellness Hub webpage for all the locations, opening hours and services you can access at each.

Weekly snapshot

From now on, our weekly snapshot will be a little different. We will add information about RSV and the flu. These weekly snapshots, now titled “Respiratory Virus Snapshot,” will still be shared across OPH’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels and posted on our main COVID-19 website at OttawaPublicHealth.ca/coronavirus.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)

RSV infects the lungs and airways. It causes colds and is the most common cause of bronchiolitis, an inflammation of the small airways of the lung, and pneumonia in babies and young children. Symptoms include cough, runny nose and fever. For more information on treatment and prevention, see this information page: Health.ca/RSV

Reinforcement information for COVID-19

Vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the most serious effects of COVID-19. Read more about why and when you should get a booster dose: Ontario.ca/COVIDbooster

key points

  • The levels of respiratory viruses circulating in our community remain high.
  • It’s important to remember that the behaviors we all learned during the pandemic to limit the spread of COVID-19 (like wearing masks and staying home when sick) will also help limit the spread of viruses like the flu or RSV .
  • Like masks and staying home when you’re sick, every layer of protection is important. Getting your flu shot and staying up-to-date on your COVID-19 shots are also important to protect yourself and those around you.
  • You can find information about how to get your vaccines on our website: OttawaPublicHealth.ca
