Indonesia passes criminal code banning sex outside marriage

Indonesia is not a secular state. Atheism is unacceptable: you technically have to follow one of the six prescribed religions. It is therefore a multi-religious state with an official ideology, Pancasila, which does not prioritize any faith over any other. This was the idea of ​​Indonesia’s post-independence leader Sukarno, to discourage large parts of the archipelago where Muslims are not a majority from breaking away.
