Andrew Tate leaves Bucharest court in handcuffs amid allegations of human trafficking

Romanian authorities have seized luxury cars from Andrew Tate’s compound as part of a criminal investigation into alleged people-trafficking.
Several cars, including a Rolls-Royce, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, were taken from the Tate grounds on the outskirts of the capital Bucharest on Saturday to be transported to a storage site.
Earlier this week, prosecutors said 15 luxury vehicles and more than 10 properties and homes had been seized from the suspects in Bucharest and the counties of Prahova and Brasov to prevent the assets from being sold or hidden.
Organized crime prosecutors arrested Tate, his brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects on December 29 on charges of forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit six women. They have denied wrongdoing.
The former kickboxer recently lost an appeal against a judge’s earlier decision to extend his detention from 24 hours to 30 days.
He was seen this week for the first time since his arrest, entering court in handcuffs with his brother.

Romanian authorities ‘seized luxury cars from property of Andrew Tate’
Romanian authorities have seized several luxury cars from Andrew Tate’s property in Bucharest, according to a reporter at the scene.
Vehicles including a Rolls-Royce, BMW and Mercedes-Benz were seen on Saturday from the Tate grounds on the outskirts of the capital for transport to a storage facility, Reuters reports.
It comes after the Romanian criminal agency searched properties in Bucharest, Ilfov and Prahova counties as part of investigations into charges against the 36-year-old British-US citizen related to human trafficking and rape.

YouTuber KSI has branded Andrew Tate “cringey” as he asked fans to stop worshiping influencers.
The internet personality, whose real name is Olajide Olatunj, said he doesn’t want to be “put on a pedestal” like the arrested former kickboxer.
He told BBC Newsbeat: “I don’t want people to worship me. I don’t want that Top G title,” referring to a Mr Tate nickname popular with former kickboxer fans.
KSI continued to contrast his and Tate’s relationship with their fan base. He said, “Try to be fair to everyone, try to be good to everyone. Spread positivity all the time,” he says.

Tate has caused concern among teachers because of the influence of his hypermasculine and misogynistic messages on teenagers.

School holds Andrew Tate assemblies over fears of ‘toxic misogynistic influence on children’
Teachers have warned that Andrew Tate’s social media posts could serve as a “gateway drug” for children who continue to view more harmful content.
At one school, head of performing arts Matt Adams decided to hold ‘Andrew Tate assemblies’ due to fears about what pupils interested in the influencer are being exposed to online.
Mr Adams teaches at a school in west London and told The Independent boys he had spoken to would either support Tate, make excuses or claim he had been misquoted.

The concept of the left being responsible for the Capitol insurrection has been around since 2021, when Republicans were pushing it to deflect from their own actions on January 6th. It has been rejected many times, but remains strong within the QAnon conspiracy circuit, which sees the left and Antifa working for the powers that be, while representing the disenfranchised “alt-right,” a group that could claim Tate as one of themselves. The Capitol claim is one of the most egregious examples of conspiracy theories making headlines, but not the only one.

Andrew Tate, the controversial former kickboxing world champion turned social media influencer, has lost his court appeal against his arrest in Romania on rape and human trafficking charges (writes Joe Sommerlad).
Eugen Vidineac, lawyer representing the 36-year-old man and his brother Tristany, who has also been arrested, has insisted that “there is not a single piece of evidence apart from the victim’s statement” that supports the allegations.
Mr Tate has amassed millions of followers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok over the past decade. But she’s also seen her accounts banned for inflammatory statements she’s made, often appearing to advocate violence against women, that the platforms ruled violated their policies.
Frequently accused of embodying toxic masculinity and misogyny, having claimed that women cannot drive, belong in the home and are the property of a man, Mr Tate has made inconsistent statements on the issue. He told the Anything Goes with James English podcast in June 2021 that he was “absolutely sexist” and “absolutely a misogynist”, only to claim on Piers Morgan Uncensored more recently that he was “absolutely not”.

Matthew Simpson, a 28-year-old teacher working at a secondary school in Bristol, says students are being exposed to Andrew Tate’s content in “out of context” memes online, my colleague Matt Mathers reports.
“The most popular at the moment is the color of Andrew Tate’s Bugatti [it is brown],” Simpson told The Independent. “Students don’t understand the full picture of his opinions and prejudices and will happily quote him.
“But then when they are challenged, they will completely ignore the fact that the man in the brown Bugatti engages in vile misogyny with his millions of followers every day. The worry is that these bite-sized pieces of content could also act as a gateway drug entry, to its longer most damaging content.”

The investigation sees searches in the counties of Bucharest, Ilfov and Prahova | achieve
Romanian investigators have so far seized more than 10 properties and land owned by companies registered to the Tate brothers, along with land and a fleet of luxury cars.
Ramona Bolla, spokeswoman for Romania’s anti-organized crime agency DIICOT, said searches were underway in Bucharest, Ilfov and Prahova counties “in order to obtain more evidence.”
Tate filed an appeal against the confiscations of his assets which was rejected by a judge.
