Two separate exclusion zones revoked by Queensland Police

Queensland Police issued two emergency declarations overnight – one in Mt Isa and the other in Cairns.

Both were “due to an ongoing operation” at Mt Isa and Mount Sheridan respectively. Both have been revoked.

The two incidents are not believed to be related.

Authorities were called to an address within the Mt Isa exclusion zone at around 10.10pm where “a threat to public safety was identified” and the statement was issued under the Preservation Act of Public Security (PSPA).

Queensland Police asked members of the public to avoid the area and people within the exclusion zones are asked to stay indoors.

The exclusion zone was revoked at 11.52am on Saturday.

A few hours later, authorities in Cairns declared an exclusion zone under the PSPA at 1.05am on Saturday, which included Bulimba Cresent, Adonis Street and Bunyip Close.

The alert to residents came after police were called to an address within the exclusion zone at around 12.15pm, where a threat to public safety was identified, leading to the statement.

At 4.44am, police announced they had lifted the emergency declaration for the Mount Sheridan area, after a man was arrested around 4am.

The man is currently assisting police with their inquiries following a reported incident of domestic violence.
