AFL LIVE: The late shot hits Pies ahead of the Hawks’ clash with the top eight on the line

Collingwood can finish round 12 in the top eight with a win over Hawthorn at the MCG as two freshman coaches clash Sunday afternoon.

Hawthorn (4-7, 87.2%) has won just one of his last six games and was hit by the Gold Coast Suns last week after what was initially a promising start to the season with Sam Mitchell.

Collingwood (6-5, 102.9%) comes after consecutive wins over the top four contenders at Fremantle and Carlton, reviving hopes of an appearance in the final the first year under the direction of Craig McRae.

Daniel Howe (Hawthorn) and Tyler Brown (Collingwood) were named medical substitutes.

Collingwood had ancestry in the early stages of the game, generating a few entries within 50.

The first goal did not come until the six minutes of the game, with Jack Ginnivan receiving a free kick and nailing the shot from seven from 50 meters.

The match starts at 14:10 EST from MCG.
