Australian Federal Police say the 66-year-old man is suspected of being a co-offender of a leader of a major crime syndicate.
In 2012, he was allegedly in charge of a plan to transport large amounts of methamphetamine, up to 40 kg, over a 12-month period.
The man was arrested at his Bangkok apartment on October 1, 2020 by Thai royal police and was extradited to Melbourne on Saturday.
He appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday to face a conspiracy charge for trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, which carries a maximum life sentence.
