The Pentagon announced an additional $275 million in defense aid for Ukraine on Friday. a lower sum than offered in many previous packages. Items offered must include ammunition, vehicles and satellite communications equipment, without countermeasures or air defense systems.
Moscow has been moving towards “a long-term defensive posture” on the front line in Ukraine over the past six weeks, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said in its daily intelligence update on Friday, adding that this was probably a sign that Russian forces in Ukraine were “Currently only capable of defensive operations.”
Ukraine said Russia had launched several Iranian-made Shahed drones in recent days. President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed that the air force would “clip the wings of all metal monsters” as he delivered an evening address next to what appeared to be a downed drone. The drones, which Iran has repeatedly denied supplying Moscow, have been used by Russian forces in Ukraine, most recently in a wave of attacks against Ukrainian energy facilities.

Displaced Ukrainians arrived in Zaporizhzhia, often after challenging and dangerous flights to safety. Many remain for extended periods as they await permission to return home. “Zaporizhzhia says we can’t go because they fear for our lives,” one refugee told The Post reporters. “But I will sign anything, I will renounce any risk; just let me go back.”
