Best red carpet fashion at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards

From Michelle Yeoh to Lily James, see the best-dressed celebrities at the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

The Critics’ Choice Awards returned to their regular time slot in January after the 2022 ceremony was delayed by more than two months amid a surge in Covid-19 cases. And all eyes were on the red carpet as the stars arrived at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in LA on Sunday evening.

In a night of understated fashion, many attendees opted for black dresses, but there were plenty of eye-catching silhouettes in between, from the asymmetrical ruffles of Quinta Brunson’s Robert Wun gown to Angela Bassett’s striking Christian Siriano design.

Lily James, nominated for her role in “Pam & Tommy,” stunned in a black Oscar de la Renta dress with a large silk bow at the waist. And there were pops of color, too, with “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star Michelle Yeoh wearing a pink and black Carolina Herrera strapless dress with dramatic sleeves and Julia Garner arriving in a sheer red Ferragamo dress on a bandeau bra from Skims.

Elsewhere, metallics and sequins proved popular. “The White Lotus” actor Aubrey Plaza wowed in a glittering Louis Vuitton gown with colorful gradient accents, while “The Woman King” star Thuso Mbedu rocked a gown embellished with gold, silver and bronze, also of the French brand. Nominees Amanda Seyfried and Sheryl Lee Ralph of “Abbott Elementary” opted for gold gowns by Dior and Jovana Louis, respectively.

In a trend seen on recent red carpets, Elle Fanning and Janelle Monáe were among the stars who wore cut-out dresses.

Men of the night embraced a range of hues, from Andrew Garfield’s camel Zegna suit to Henry Golding’s eye-catching teal suit. Ke Huy Quan, Billy Eichner and Harry Shum Jr. they were among the many attendees who arrived in shades of maroon, on a night where many male guests eschewed the conventional black-tie dress code.
