The queen has symbolically led the lighting of the platinum jubilee lighthouse at a spectacular end to the first day of historic national commemorations celebrating her 70th reign.
The monarch’s appearance at Windsor Castle at night completed the start of a merry party that saw the Queen go up to the balcony of Buckingham Palace surrounded by her family.
Earlier, the Queen appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with other members of the royal family to great applause from watching the crowd as the royal family watched the flight.
Other beacons will be lit at 9.45pm with bagpipers from across the UK performing ‘Die Regnare’. Beacons will also be lit throughout the Commonwealth at 9.15pm local time.
The first beacons that were lit were in Tonga and Samoa in the South Pacific, the final one will be in Belize.

Thousands of people filled the sides of the mall Thursday before, as the monarch made a first appearance alongside her cousin the Duke of Kent, Colonel of the Scottish Guard, to receive the Trooping the Color salute.
After 70 years of service to the country and the Commonwealth, supporters take to the streets over the holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Trooping the Color began the festivities and saw the Prince of Wales replace the Queen, receive the greeting and inspect the troops as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the Duchess of Cambridge and other members of the Duchess. royal family to see the show.

Welcome to our live Platinum Jubilee blog, we’ll bring you the latest news on ongoing celebrations to mark the historic occasion.
The occasion marks the 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth II, who came to the throne 70 years ago and is the longest-serving monarch in UK history.
Four days of celebrations will begin with the Trooping the Color ceremony at 10am in central London. Crowds are already queuing along the mall for the event.
The parade will end with an RAF flight watched by members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at 1 p.m.
And later tonight, 1,500 beacons will be lit across the UK and in the capitals of Commonwealth countries.

People are already starting to line up along the mall
Dozens of people have spent the night camping at The Mall to get the best venue for Thursday’s celebrations in central London.
With Union flags, they have come from all over the UK, and some even further afield, to see the Trooping the Color ceremony and a passage from the Royal Air Force, Army and Royal Navy.

Who was recognized on the Queen’s Birthday Honors List?
The famous faces of the show, sport and politics have been recognized in the list of honors of the queen’s birthday, and this year’s recipients are said to reflect the “invaluable” qualities of the monarch by mark the platinum jubilee.
Sir Salman Rushdie, Sir Quentin Blake, Damian Lewis and Stella McCartney are among the renowned celebrities.

What’s going on today?
The four-day celebrations of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will begin at 10 a.m. with the Trooping the Color ceremony.
Thousands of supporters will take to the streets of London over the holiday weekend to mark the monarch’s milestone after 70 years on the throne.
Trooping the Color is all about pomp and splendor and will see the Prince of Wales replace the Queen, take the salute and inspect the troops.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be among those watching the show.
After the ceremony, the Queen will thank the salute of the home cavalry mounted regiment from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

He will then join the royal family working on the balcony to watch the traditional passage of the plane.
In the evening, more than 3,000 beacons will be lit across the UK and the Commonwealth in honor of the Queen, who will direct the lighting of the Jubilee’s main lighthouse in a special ceremony at Windsor Castle that night.
The Armed Forces will pay special tribute to Her Majesty, giving a double salute to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee and the 69th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation in 1953.
The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, named after the monarch’s father, King George VI, 75 years ago this year, will launch a 82-gun salute from Hyde Park shortly before 1 p.m.
While 124 volleys will be fired from the Tower of London by the Honorable Artillery Company – an additional 42 for the City of London – from one o’clock.
