It’s time for Hamza and Jowita!
Her first dance is the Foxtrot to ‘Islands In The Stream’ by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. I guess this could be seen as an oblique reference to Hamza as a man in touch with nature, so let’s have a drink.
Score: 6,7,7,8 – a total of 28 for Ellie T and Johannes.
Just a note to apologize for the lack of pictures on the blog so far, especially for those still without the TV bit. They are starting to appear in the image system, so I will add as many as I can later.
Shirley loved Ellie’s cleavage and frame, and now she has to focus on her feet. Anton loved the Hollywood glamor and characterization, but the nuts and bolts underneath need some work. Craig agrees that the footwork was a problem, but he really enjoyed the routine. Motsi thought it was classic, elegant, fun and light.
Love Ellie’s gorgeous 40s style, and the characterization on this one is fabulous. Nice footwork and frame too – lots of love for that. Some timing issues, but overall a great effort for Week 1 – how good is this series going to be?
Next up is Ellie T and Johannes
His first dance is the Quickstep to ‘I Am What I Am’ by Klaus Hallen Tanzoorchester. Try saying that after a full night of Strictly Come Bingo.
A Quickstep in the first week is always a risky strategy, but I love the choice of music. I think we can all agree that fabulous disco is definitely the musical theme of the night.
Only three left! Stay with me folks!
Score: 8,9,8,9: A total of 34 for Will and Nancy. DRINK IT ALL.
“You gave her some good, Will.” Well done for not getting it wrong, Tess.
Motsi loved Will’s hips, he was great. Shirley is speechless, everything was coordinated and powerful and she loved it. Anton thought Will owned the dance, it was absolutely amazing. Craig thought it lacked pull, but loved it.
Will doesn’t move for the first ten seconds of this dance, but then he does and it’s really worth the wait. Some Jive basics and the lightest footwork we’ve seen at a Jive tonight. These two also have good chemistry, that was really great. Possibly my favorite dance of the night so far, but it’s been a long night and I can’t watch anymore.
It’s Will and Nancy time!
Their first dance is the Jive to Ricky Martin’s ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’, which is actually a pretty sexy choice for a Jive. What if we all want to take off our clothes and go dancing in the rain? I’m not sure they thought it through.
Score: 3 (BABY), 4,4,4, a total of 15 for Tony and Katya.
Updated at 20.40 BST
Craig thought he was strong and his feet seemed to stick to the floor, but he had attack and aggression. Motsi says a lot of words that mean nothing, in an attempt to be kind. Shirley thought Tony’s ballroom frame had potential, but she was wrong. Anton didn’t know what Tony’s routine was, and neither did Tony. There was a lot to like – Tony needs to go out next week and do a better job.
Tony appears from the sky with a cannon, which I assume is a Gunners reference? See, working the football pieces means I don’t have to watch this incredibly fast-paced tango, which Tony approaches like he’s marching in a parade. Katya is giving him ALL the distractions, but it’s definitely happened and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Who’s next? It’s Tony and Katya!
His first dance is the Tango to ‘Go West’ by the Village People. This is what Katya is great at: take a non-dancer, pick them up, put them on the camp track you can find and give them a huge confidence boost. Come on Toni, you got this.
Apparently this song has some sort of connection to Arsenal football. DRINK
Score: 6,7,7,6 – A total of 26 for Ellie and Nikita.
Anton thought it was wonderful, Ellie’s timing was excellent and the characterization was great. Craig saw a couple of problems with the footwork, but generally fantastic. Motsi loved the spotlight and Shirley and Ellie covered many of the elements of the Cha Cha Cha. Great feedback all around.
