Former President Donald Trump and two of his sons postponed their interrogation in a New York civil investigation into their business dealings, a delay after the death of Trump’s ex-wife, Ivana.
The former president, son Donald Jr. and daughter Ivanka had been scheduled for deposition, a deadline for an extrajudicial interrogation under oath, beginning Friday. But New York Attorney General’s Office Letitia James said she agreed to postpone them because of Ivana Trump’s death.
“We offer our condolences to the Trump family,” Attorney General Delaney Kempner’s office spokeswoman said in a statement.

There are no new dates for statements yet.
A message was left to the former president’s lawyer. Younger Trumps lawyer Alan Futerfas declined to comment.
Ivana Trump died at her Manhattan home at age 73. She was married to the former president between 1977 and 1992 and they had three children together: Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric.

The coroner’s office said Friday it decided Ivana Trump’s death was an accident, caused by severe torso injuries.
Two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Thursday that police were investigating whether he had fallen down the stairs.
People were unable to discuss the matter publicly and spoke with the AP on condition of anonymity.

The New York police department said Thursday that “there did not appear to be any crime” related to his death.
According to a statement, police received a call on 911 about an “assisted individual” around 12:40 pm ET and found a “73-year-old woman unconscious and unanswered.”
The New York Fire Department said it responded to a report of a person suffering a cardiac arrest at the residence, with the time and place of that response coinciding with the location of the NYPD associated with Ivana Trump . Firefighters said the victim was dead on arrival.
The EMS, police said, declared the death of Ivana Trump at the scene.

James alleges that the former president’s company, the Trump Organization, inflated the values of skyscrapers, golf courses and other properties to obtain loans, insurance and other benefits.
Trump has denied the allegations, saying it is common in the real estate industry to seek the best valuations. The Republican has dismissed the investigation as part of a “witch hunt” for political reasons by Democrats like James.
Trump’s deposition was approaching as he laid the groundwork for a likely candidacy for the White House in 2024, but he is also facing growing scrutiny of his conduct in the 2020 election.
