Tulsa shooting: Five killed in attack on medical clinic

Police have identified the suspect and four victims who died Wednesday in Tulsa, on the campus of Saint Francis Hospital.

Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin told reporters Thursday morning that Michael Louis, the suspect, wanted to kill Dr. Preston Phillips for recent back surgery and the pain he felt.

He said the suspect bought a semi-automatic rifle hours before the shooting on Wednesday afternoon, killing another doctor, a receptionist and a patient.

Meanwhile, witnesses have recalled what happened when the man armed with a rifle and a pistol opened fire and committed suicide.

Officers responded to the scene in four minutes to find a “catastrophic scene,” Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg said.

Franklin praised the actions of his officers to do what they had been trained to do, “to take immediate action without hesitation, that is exactly what our officers are doing.”

Other killings include Dr. Stephanie J Husen, receptionist Amanda Glenn and hospital patient William Love.

Oklahoma was the first state to ban red flag laws in 2020

Many are paying a new scrutiny to Oklahoma gun laws after the Tulsa shooting.

Some point to a decision taken in 2020 to sign the first and apparently the only bill in the country that includes “red flag” provisions, which allow authorities to confiscate the weapons of those whom a court considers to be a danger to themselves or to others.

“Red flag laws would circumvent our laws, depriving American citizens of their rights to due process under the law. As a veteran and American, I could never let that happen,” said State Representative Jay Steagall. , the author of the bill, when the law was signed.
