Xiaomi’s new flagship is finally here. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra offers a much improved camera with the help of Leica and the latest Snapdragon power.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra

The settings of the auxiliary camera are similar to those of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra with a pair of half-inch sensors for ultra-wide focus and periscope cameras. But the main camera is new and easily claims to be the most impressive smartphone camera in the world.

The 50.3 MP, 23mm wide-angle camera is a pioneer in Sony’s 1-inch IMX989 sensor. This is the largest image of any smartphone and brings the largest individual pixels to 3.2 µm in its 12.5 MP 4 in 1 mode.

Leica is bringing its imaging experience to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in terms of both optical design and imaging software. The lens in front of the 1-inch sensor is an 8P element lens, which addresses issues such as flame, chromatic aberration, and ghost. In addition, there is an ink coating on the edge of the lens, as well as a cyclic olefin copolymer material and an infrared light filter with rotating coating technology. Leica has adorned the entire rear camera module with its iconic Summicron label.

As for the software, there are two photo styles: “Leica Authentic Look” and “Leica Vibrant Look”. The authentic look aims for a natural image, focused on the contrast of light and shadow, adding depth to the photos. The vibrant look leverages Xiaomi’s computational photography intelligence with the Leica aesthetic. In addition, there are Leica filters: Leica Vivid, Leica Natural, Leica BW Natural and Leica BW High Contrast.

The other two cameras on the back of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra carry the reliable Sony IMX586 1 / 2.0-inch 48 MP sensor, used in the Mi 11 Ultra. The ultrarawide is a 13mm f / 2.2 with autofocus and macro capabilities. The telephoto camera has a 120 mm f / 4.1 periscope. Both capture 12 MP still images with 1.6 µm pixels after binning.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra can capture high-efficiency 8-bit JPEG or HEIF files, as well as 10-bit DNG RAW files with an embedded profile for Adobe’s Lightroom.

In terms of video, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first Android phone to support Dolby Vision HDR recording. 10-bit h.265 videos are captured in HLG with the Rec.2020 color space in both 4K and FullHD. In 4K, you get 30 fps and 60 fps up to 80 Mbps, while in 1080p you get 60 fps at 55 Mbps and 30 fps at 35 Mbps.

Now for the bits of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra smartphone. In front, there is a 6.73-inch E5 Super AMOLED with a resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels with AdaptiveSync Pro support, which can be upgraded variably from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. The 4,860 mAh battery supports 67 W wireless charging and 50 W wireless charging (10 W reverse wireless charging).

Xiaomi has two custom Surge chips for battery management: the Xiaomi Surge P1 charging chip protects the battery from overcharging and extends its life, while the Xiaomi Surge G1 manages battery usage, extending the battery life. resistance.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra powers the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The new Snapdragon claims a 10% improvement in GPU and CPU performance and 30% energy efficiency compared to the 8 Gen 1.

Xiaomi boasts that the 12S Ultra features an innovative 3D liquid cooling mechanism, which uses a capillary network to pump condensed coolant to the opposite side of the hot zone.

Like the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, the 12S Ultra offers Harman Kardon-adjusted stereo speakers, with support for Dolby Atmos. The software at the top is MIUI 13 on Android 12.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra weighs 225 g and is water and dust resistant IP68. It comes in classic black and greenish green with a leather-like back finish. Unfortunately, Xiaomi has confirmed that it will not be available outside of China, where the phone is CNY 5,999 for 8/256 GB, CNY 6,499 for 12/256 GB and CNY 6,999 for 12/512 GB.
