In anticipation of the 2023 Social Security COLA announcement, Democrats are on the attack.
Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse sent out a tweet calling out Republican plans to cut Social Security.
“Republicans have said they want to put Social Security on the table, even though they’re terrible at admitting it,” Whitehouse said. Heading into the midterms, Democrats are trying to make the differences between their and Republican positions on Social Security very clear to voters. Democratic leaders know Social Security is popular, and they can hammer Republicans by calling out their attempts to continue privatizing retirement, which poses a huge risk to workers. Consider that during the 2008 financial crisis, millions of workers saw their 401(k)s and pensions devastated by criminal bets made by Wall Street bankers.
