BCCDC Launches New Data Platform for Respiratory Diseases

Data from COVID-19 will now be integrated with data from other respiratory pathogens and will be available through an interactive data reporting platform at: Respiratory Diseases

Integrated surveillance will better guide BC’s understanding of the burden of respiratory disease and its outcomes.

Existing COVID-19 specific reports and dashboards will be accessed through the new Respiratory Diseases page, including:

Interactive web pages will also provide:

  • Laboratory test data for respiratory pathogens such as influenza, RSV, enterovirus/rhinovirus, and others
  • Visits to primary care and other community health settings for respiratory disease

Over the coming weeks and months, more data will be added to the surveillance platform, including visits to acute care facilities, outbreaks in healthcare facilities, samples sent through the Sentinel Practitioner Surveillance Network, and antibody tests in blood samples

As the new integrated surveillance platform will more accurately reflect respiratory disease patterns across the province, it will replace the Local Health Area map of COVID-19 cases. This change also aligns with current guidelines, which recommend testing primarily for people most at risk of serious illness, similar to testing practices for other respiratory illnesses.

In the future, people will be able to track wastewater data, MSP billing for primary care and community health clinic visits, emergency department visits, and lab test results for a greater number of diseases. This will provide a more complete and accurate sense of the disease and impact across the province.

Updates to other PDF reports and archived COVID-19 reports will continue to be available at bccdc.ca/covid19data.
