Nick Ames was Amex Stadium tonight. Here is his report.

Full time: Brighton 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Forest moved off the bottom of the table with a very, very, very, hard-fought draw at Brighton. They were outplayed but scrapped admirably, especially the spine, and the last 20 minutes were probably the most comfortable of the game. Dean Henderson made a few decent saves and one excellent one.

There are some boos from the Brighton fans at the end. I don’t think there is anything to worry about. They played very well for most of the game, but Roberto De Zerbi will want his first win as soon as possible. He’ll probably have to wait a little longer, though: his next game is away to Manchester City.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-1 Wolves (Eze 49)

The palace is level in Selhurst Park. Michael Olise sends in a deep cross from the right that eludes Nelson Semedo and goes towards where Ebere Eze has arrived. A good end to a very nice player.

90+2 min Trossard almost crawls through four Forest defenders in the box, but one of them trains the ball.

90+1 min Biancone comes out on the right and crosses low into the middle. Dunk stretches to clear but fires the ball straight to Awoniyi. Fortunately for Brighton, it bounces wide.

90+1 min Five minutes of added time.

90 min Mac Allister’s corner is cleared at the near post. Foul in the woods, Lamptey takes out Awoniyi and is booked.

89 min After another clear passing move, Lamptey’s low cross is put back for a corner.

89 min Brighton should score a dominant 0-0 draw.

87 min. Dunk’s header, from Mac Allister’s foul, bounces harmlessly past Henderson. Forest break and Biancone plays the worst pass of the season.

86 min: Triple substitution for Forest Joe Worrall, Taiwo Awoniyi and Giulian Biancone replace Jesse Lingard, the limping Harry Toffolo and Brennan Johnson.

85 min: Substitution for Brighton Deniz Undav replaces Pascal Gross.

85 min. Freuler is booked for a cheeky foul on Lamptey, with aerial heels.

83 min Trossard’s shot from 20 yards is blocked by the indefatigable Yates.

81 min: Magnificent save from Henderson! Lamptey’s cross from the right is helped by Welbeck to Gross, 12 yards out. He doesn’t quite connect with a first-time shot, but it goes off the turf and Henderson curls it around the post, to his right. This is his best save of the night. Gross will feel he should have done better, though. I think he kicked him against his right foot.

81 min Brighton haven’t scored in four and a half hours. But you should see his xG!

80 min A corner is returned to original taker Gibbs-White. He curls a cross past the far post, where McKenna heads it wide. The angle was very tight.

Mid: Crystal Palace 0-1 Wolves

Wolves took the lead thanks to Adama Traore’s superb header, and almost had a second when Ruben Neves sent a superb free-kick against the post in stoppage time.

78 min Yates, who was accidentally kicked in the face by Caicedo, is now accidentally tackled in his personal space by Mac Allister. It’s okay, in the end.

78 min This would be an excellent result for Forest. They have been hopeless as an attacking force, no offense, but they have struggled very hard defensively. They lack confidence, sure, but not spirit, certainly not in the center of defense and midfield.

77 min “What a surreal situation this is,” says Harriet Osborn. “A US based Everton supporter is emailing an MBM blog about Brighton and Nottingham Forest playing a boring game and discussing…Wrexham AFC playing what would appear to be an exciting game. What a world. What a game.”

What television programming.

75 min Freuler concedes a silly free-kick, handling March on the right. Gross’s delivery is almost perfect, and Cook does brilliantly to clear himself up as Webster questions him.

74 min “Reading the article about Messi and the state-sponsored transfer I found myself thinking, ‘In fiscal terms, it’s interesting,’ says Phil Podolsky. “That’s not the kind of thinking that I, a man who still listen to the Smashing Pumpkins, I tend to have. Where do I get my adult sound bites from? Apparently, Jeremy Irons.

There are worse Jeremys, and not just in Pearl Jam songs.

73 min Lingard reminds everyone he’s on the pitch by elbowing Veltman in the head. I don’t think it was intentional, and neither did the referee.

71 min “I’m glad Serge Aurier is back in the Premier League, it’s a more fun place to have him around,” says Tom Atkins. “But I’m even happier that he’s not playing for my team.”

In fact, he was very repressed tonight. The game is gone!

70 min March’s cross on the turn is too close to Henderson. Brighton are starting to look a little frustrated.

69 min “Just to pass the time between goalless moments,” says Mary Waltz, “Wrexham are 3-0 up on Blyth going into the break.”

68 min Harry Toffolo replaces Serge Aurier for Forest, which means Neco Williams moves to right-back. After a rough start against Leandro Trossard, Aurier did quite well.

67 min “Very lovely to see a teacher (20:31) quoting lines from 10 Things I Hate About You on MBM tonight,” says Matt Hobbs. “Are there any other movie lines that can aptly describe Brighton’s job without a top scorer? I’ll throw Voyager into the mix now: “Oh, Jerry, we’re not asking for the moon. We have the stars. Because, well, I support Everton and I can assure you that Brighton are much more fun to watch. And we paid £15m for Neil Maupay.”

I knew I’d heard that catch phrase somewhere.

66 min Forest are coming into this game very lightly. Kouyate forces a pass to Yates on the right side of the box. He gets away from Caicedo and sends a cross shot that eludes Lingard at the far post.

64 min: Substitution for Brighton The effervescent Tariq Lamptey replaces Adam Lallana, who had an excellent game. I guess he can’t do another 90 minutes, but he’s still a class act.

63 min “I can’t help but feel,” says David C Hunter, “that Potter’s rise up the M23/M25 means Brighton has gone from underwhelming to underwhelming.”

The fact is, this is the type of game we’ve seen many times with Potter: total dominance, no goals.

62 min As Adama Traore scored for Wolves, Brighton had another opening when March’s low cross was headed clear inside the six-yard box.

61 min: Forest substitution Cheikhou Kouyate replaces Orel Mangala in the Forest midfield.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 0-1 Wolves (A Traore 31)

Adama Traore has given Wolves an unlikely lead at Selhurst Park. It was hard work by the Wolves, from one end of the field to the other. Finally, Bueno produced a superb cross at the far post, where Traore headed Guaita. It’s an excellent goal.

58 min They’ve had a few touches in the Brighton area now. Johnson charges down the right to a long pass from Gibbs-White. He runs at the receding Dunk, moves the ball to his left foot but then cuts his shot for a layup.

Updated at 9.41pm BST

56 min Trossard steals the ball from Cook and passes it to Welbeck, whose first touch is too heavy. This poor control by Welbeck was Brighton’s 25th touch in the opposition penalty area. The forest has had none.

53 min Yates goes down on a bouncing ball and is kicked in the face by Caicedo, who didn’t see it coming blindly. Yates is down, though he’s conscious and looks fine apart from a nosebleed. Caicedo is cautioned.

51 min: Another chance for Brighton! Veltman goes forward and curls a beautiful cross towards the far post. Welbeck rises above McKenna but misses a header that goes just yards out.

49 min Gross’s corner is volleyed by Welbeck 12 yards out and Henderson moves to his left to put it away. A comfortable stop.

48 min March commits a foul 30 meters from the goal, slightly to the left of the centre. The free-kick goes to Mac Allister, whose fierce shot hits the head of Gibbs-White and back into the corner.

46 min Peep Peep! Incidentally, Crystal Palace 0-0 Wolves after 17 minutes at Selhurst Park.

“Ryan Thomas’ use of the word ‘disappointed’ reminded me of a quirk of language,” says Professor Matt Dony. “You can feel let down, and you can be overwhelmed. But it’s very rare that you feel simply ‘down’. I would say that Brighton’s attack has often caught the opposition by surprise. Not let down, as they are very good players and attack with technically skilled football, and not overwhelmed, as they hardly ever score. Just deluded.”

An attack led by Danny Whelmbeck, horn.

“It’s late Rob,” says Simon McMahon. “In the absence of significant action at Brighton / Gillingham / Portsmouth, perhaps your readers would like to know that Dundee United are currently level at 1-1 at Kilmarnock in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup. Or that Scotland probably will qualify for the Super 12s in the T20 World Cup if they beat Ireland tomorrow. All of which means I won’t sleep very well tonight. I can handle the despair etc…”
