Creative Arts Emmys: ‘The Beatles: Get Back,’ ‘Adele: One Night Only’ Win Big on First Night

The Beatles: Get Back and Adele: One Night Only won five awards each during the first of two Creative Arts Emmys presentation nights on Saturday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Beatles: Get Back delivered two Emmys to Peter Jackson, for directing and outstanding documentary. “Shout out to the Beatles,” enthused Jackson, who is also a three-time Oscar winner for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and is now midway through EGOT.

The five awards of Adele: One Night Only include an extraordinary pre-recorded variety special. With the win, Adele is now just one Tony away from achieving EGOT status.

RuPaul won an Emmy for hosting his RuPaul’s Drag Race, extending his record as the most honored person of color in Emmy history with 12 total wins and seven consecutive Outstanding Host wins.

Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous Emmy for his voice acting as T’Challa in the Disney+ series What If…? Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, agreed, saying, “What a perfectly aligned moment that one of the last things he would work on would not only be revisiting a character that was so important to him and his career and for the world. , but also for it to be an exploration of something new, diving into a new potential future.”

Former President Barack Obama won his first Emmy, for narrating the Netflix docuseries Our Great National Parks. He is now halfway through the EGOT, having won two Grammys.

Riot Games and Netflix’s animated series Arcane received four Emmy Awards, including Animated Series and three Jury Prizes. The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show was a big winner with three Emmys, while Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum also picked up three.

Shows that won two Emmys include A Black Lady Sketch Show, Drag Race, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Luci and Desi and the Love Death + Robots episode “Jibaro” (includes a jury prize).

All attendees at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys were required to show proof of a negative COVID test. The second Creative Arts Emmys ceremony will be held on Sunday.
