NFL running back Damar Hamlin is showing “signs of improvement” but remains in intensive care after suffering cardiac arrest on the field, his team said in an update Wednesday night.
The Buffalo Bills linebacker remains in critical condition in the hospital after collapsing after making a tackle on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins during Monday night’s game.
Hamlin’s uncle, Dorrian Glenn, had told CNN on Tuesday evening that his nephew had to be resuscitated twice, though family friend and Hamlin’s marketing representative, Jordon Rooney, clarified those remarks Wednesday morning, saying Glenn misspoke and security was only resurrected once.
“Right now things are moving in a positive direction,” Rooney told NFL Network. “What the doctors were looking to see, I think they saw. They reported last night that he was revived twice. I wanted to clarify, we misspoke, he was only revived once.”
Hamlin’s family thanked the fans and praised the work of the medical staff and the support of the Bengals and coach Zac Taylor. “We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words and donations from fans across the country,” read a statement Tuesday.

Skip Bayless defends refusal to delete Damar Hamlin’s tweet in angry clash with co-host
Sharpe did not appear on Tuesday’s Undisputed show after Hamlin collapsed during Monday night’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.
Bayless, a sports pundit known for trolling athletes and giving outrageous takes, was widely criticized for a tweet he made after Hamlin went into cardiac arrest.
“[N]I have no doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game, but how? Late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the outcome of the regular season…which suddenly seems so irrelevant,” Bayless tweeted after the game was suspended.
Sharpe told Bayless he would not explain why he had missed the show, despite reports it was because he was upset with his co-host.

All of us who watch this brutal, yet exciting sport are responsible for what happened to Damar Hamlin
After 24 years, Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills is getting back on his feet quickly. It seems to be fine. But after two steps, he collapses, falling to the pitch, unable to move.
We know that medical personnel who rushed to the field had to restart the player’s heart, before he was evacuated by ambulance and taken to the hospital, as players from both the Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals sat or they prayed, completely bewildered.
The young man was said to be in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he has been sedated and is undergoing “further tests and treatment.”
There were an outpouring of emotional messages of support from fans and players alike, wishing Hamlin a speedy recovery, especially from Tee Higgins, the Bengals player he collided with. “I’m praying you do bro. Love,” he wrote on Twitter.
But is that it? Is that all that will happen? It is the only inspection that will take place after this game, which was only suspended after the accident, after the intervention of the two coaches.

Hamlin’s collapse sparks a new wave of vaccine misinformation
Unsubstantiated claims about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines proliferated in the hours and days after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed during Monday’s game, revealing how widespread misinformation about vaccines three years after the start of the pandemic.
Even before Hamlin was pulled from the field in Cincinnati, posts garnering thousands of shares and millions of views began circulating online claiming without evidence that complications from COVID-19 vaccines caused his emergency sanitary
While heart specialists say it’s too early to know what caused Hamlin’s heart to stop, they have offered a rare type of trauma called commotio cordis as possible culprits. Doctors interviewed by The Associated Press say there is no indication that Hamlin’s vaccine status played a role and that there is no evidence to support claims that a number of young athletes have died as a result of vaccinations against COVID.

Damar Hamlin’s father condemns ‘backlash’ towards Tee Higgins
ICYMI: Damar Hamlin’s family has asked that there be no backlash toward the Cincinnati Bengals player involved in the incident that saw Hamlin collapse.
Wide receiver Tee Higgins was the player tackled by Buffalo Bills safety before going into cardiac arrest during Monday night’s game.
Higgins has largely received an outpouring of support for the incident, but the small amount of negative sentiment headed his way has been swiftly and firmly condemned by Hamlin’s family.
“Damar’s parents were kind of frustrated that Tee was getting any kind of backlash,” family friend and Hamlin marketing representative Jordon Rooney said in an NFL Network interview. “This was a regular football play.
“Tee has reached out, he’s been supportive, so the family doesn’t want any backlash towards him at all.”

Bengals vs Bills rematch?
The NFL is currently sorting through its options regarding the Bengals vs. Bills game with the regular season finale set to take place this weekend.
Ian Rapoport mentions that the NFL would consider the game a “non-contest” or a tie, which would be at the discretion of the commissioner and allow the league to earn a percentage to determine seeds and byes.
Another option is to push back the playoffs and have a Week 19, although Ian Rapoport says that option is “unlikely.”
It would make sure that the wild card weekend turns into the divisional round weekend, and so on. It’s unclear whether that would mean a week-long build-up to Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12 or what would happen to the traditional Pro Bowl the weekend before.
