“Afternoon Luke,” emails Simon McMahon. “Even at this stage of the season, Dundee United could do with three points at home to St. They look today after big losses to AZ Alkmaar and Hearts. It hasn’t reached Manchester United levels of mismanagement yet, and we don’t have to play Liverpool on Monday, but still. Take United.
“Today’s other games are Motherwell-Livingston, Ross County-Kilmarnock and St. Johnstone-Aberdeen, while Hibs and Rangers drew 2-2 earlier in the game, and Celtic host Hearts tomorrow.”
Hey, did I mention the Rangers! Thanks for the email Simon.

Goal! Fulham – Brentford 1-0 (Decordova-Reid)
Will this be one of those ‘Wow, Manchester United must be really bad’ afternoons? Decordova-Reid, or Reid as some say, has a tap-in to put Fulham in front after the ball comes off the woodwork again.

So here we go. 3pm is literally seconds away. Let’s do this.
Jonathan Liew watched Spurs 1-0 Wolves in North London, and here’s his match report:
I have just searched for the oldest photos of Nottingham Forest in our image library. Arguably they don’t date back to 1892 and the first league game at Goodison. But here’s Stan Collymore celebrating a goal against Palace at Selhurst Park in 1995. I was at that game, fans indeed. Collymore’s goal was a typical mix of boldness, skill, pace and power. Bryan Roy scored the first… Iain Dowie got the goal for Palace!

Brendan Rodgers, on Sky Sports, is asked about the absences of Tielemans and Fofana: “One is a change of system and two… I mentioned during the week, coming into a Premier League game maybe not in their condition in the right mood. [is not what Rodgers wants’] … and this is the reason for the change”.

“We need to focus on ourselves and build on some of the good things we did last week,” acknowledged Forest manager Steve Cooper, via the club’s Twitter account.

“Everton v Forest afternoon at Goodison Park is a replay of the first ever competitive game at Goodison, 130 years ago on 3rd September 1892,” emails Ed Shardlow.
“My distant cousin, Forest ‘left’ Horace Pike scored the first goal. This is how the match report describes it:
“The visitors showed a good game, very quick with the ball, and Jardine had problems, Pike made a gallant attempt to lower the colour. However, it only resulted in a corner, but from that Pike got their revenge as he skilfully slotted home a goal.”
“The game, which was also Forest’s first game in the top division, finished 2-2.”
Thanks for the email Ed. Yes, it’s good to see Forest back in the front row, and Everton v Forest is an event that somehow feels good.

Harry Kane has just put Spurs in front against Wolves, thanks in no small part to Ivan Perisic’s clever strike at the near post. That’s 250 goals for Kane’s Tottenham.
Barcelona have yet to receive clearance to register French defender Jules Koundé as a player, one of their summer signings, as the club works to comply with LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, he said. coach Xavi on Saturday.
“At the moment, we don’t know anything. We’re waiting,” said Xavi on his trip to San Sebastián to face Real Sociedad on Sunday. Barca must meet La Liga salary cap rules to sign Koundé, and potential sales of strikers Pierre -Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay could make it possible.
“We are waiting. Koundé is a great leader and a great player. Hopefully he will show it soon, tomorrow, if he can play. He has trained very well, I see him in a good mood, but we have to sell players to be able to sign him “.
Koundé missed Barca’s season debut against Rayo Vallecano after La Liga prevented the club from signing him up alongside fellow summer signings Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.
“The transfer market ends on August 31 and we don’t know what will happen,” said Xavi. “Auba and Memphis are still here, so we will use them tomorrow. But the priority is to register Koundé.” (Reuters)

And here’s Will Unwin on Erik ten Hag and the firefighting he has to do early in his Manchester United reign, with Liverpool looming large on Monday night:
“Trying to adapt to a new set of tactical and stylistic rules is difficult enough for footballers at the best of times, but when confidence is low it’s almost impossible.”
As it stands, the very underwhelming clash between Tottenham and Wolves is goalless at half time. The second half, in fact, just started this second.
While we wait for the team…
