Everton player ratings gallery: Five players only get 5/10 but 8/10 against Celtic

Everton’s player ratings of their Sydney Super Cup clash with Celtic.

Everton’s opening game in the Sydney Super Cup ended with a penalty shoot-out win against Celtic after a 0-0 draw.

The Toffees were missing a number of key players in Australia due to the World Cup and international call-ups, but were below their best against the Scottish champions and lacked any cutting edge in the final third.

The game ended goalless after 90 minutes before Anthony Gordon won the game for Everton in a 4-2 penalty shoot-out triumph.

The first half ended goalless although both teams had chances. Neal Maupay had a one-on-one effort for Everton, while Jota crashed a free-kick against the crossbar.

Celtic had the better chances in the second period, with Asmir Begovic making a great save from Kyogo Furuhashi before Liel Abada burst off his lines from the six-yard box.

But the game went to penalties and the Blues kept their cool to win it.

This is how we rated the Everton players.

1. Asmir Begovic – 8

He made a couple of saves in the first half and then a big save from Furuhashi in the second period, which kept Everton in the game.
