When Apple launches the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, it will expect the relatively low price, compared to larger models, and the appeal of the MacBook Pro name to attract customers. But these customers should take a moment to look at the rest of the Mac wallet and think carefully about their needs.

This consumer MacBook Pro offers many advantages for Apple, but for consumers, these same points weaken the sales argument.
The first is design. Apple has waxed the lyric about the new design language introduced with the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. As part of this change, Apple regained the MagSafe payload, more useful I / O ports, new display technology, fast charging, and more. Many of these new features were passed on to the new MacBook Air also launched at WWDC.
The M2-powered MacBook Pro does not have any of these new features. It retains the design introduced in 2016, the screen has not been updated and the ports are still limited. This is great for Apple’s supply chain management, but surely a new laptop should be new?
Apple can take advantage of the capabilities of the M2 chip set, but this is the same chip set as the new MacBook Air. The MacBook Pro has a small fan to help cool down and allow the M2 to run warmer and perform better than the MacBook Air without a fan. Regardless of which laptop the M2 is in and which cooling method is used, the M1 Pro and M1 Max of the larger Pro laptops outperform these two laptops. I have no doubt that there is a very small subset of customers that need a little more power than the MacBook Air offers, in this case it’s the MacBook Pro, but if you’re looking for power, you should look for MacBook Pro laptops to power.
Having an entry-level MacBook Pro M2 gives Apple a “cheap” MacBook Pro in its wallet and gives the impression that there is an affordable MacBook Pro. Fill in a price line and create a smooth progression in the range of laptops.
But this laptop is a fake economy for consumers. Those looking for a full machine have a better choice on the MacBook Air M2. Those looking for a cheaper macOS laptop should look at the original MacBook Air M1 that Apple has kept in its books to have a modern $ 999 laptop. Those looking for more power will have no problem looking higher in the range.
This MacBook Pro meets many of Apple’s promotional, marketing, and device management challenges. It doesn’t meet the needs of Apple customers looking for a laptop that suits them. These questions are answered elsewhere in Apple’s MacBook line. Consumers should look for it.
