MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) — A person of interest in the kidnapping of four family members in Merced County this week is now in custody.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Office says 48-year-old Jesús Manuel Salgado is in critical condition at the hospital after allegedly trying to take his own life before he was located.
Officers were advised that one of the victim’s ATM cards was being used at a bank in Atwater.
The surveillance video matches Salgado’s description of the initial scene of the kidnapping. He was then identified as a person of interest.

On Monday, detectives say Jasdeep Singh, 36, Jasleen Kaur, 27, their eight-month-old son Aroohi Dheri and their uncle, Amandeep Singh, 39, were abducted from a business Monday afternoon. the Dickenson Ferry Road intersection
and South Highway 59 in Merced County.
On Tuesday afternoon, the four family members were not found.
