Kemi Badenoch: It’s time to tell the truth. The truth is that if we do not change, we will fail. I love this country, I chose it when I was 16 years old. It is the best place in the world. And yet our country can still be much better. Best for those who work hard to get to the end of the month, making burgers at McDonald’s 16 years ago all these years. The machine does not work. As an engineer I know how to disassemble things and make them work.
Tom Tugendhat: This afternoon is not about us, not just the Conservative Party, but about you, your country and your prime minister. The country is going through a crisis at home and challenges abroad. We know people ask the right question. We need a clean start, we all know that. I have a leadership career. I have led operations and I have headed Parliament.
Penny Mordaunt: At some point you will all have one vote, and you will see that not all politicians are equal. I am not the traditional bidder, I am not the inherited candidate. I am focused on the future and I want our nation to be all that it can be and shine with the new freedoms that our great democracy has determined it would be.
Rishi Sunak: We all want to cut taxes so that people have more of their own money left. The choice of these choices is who can be trusted to dominate that moment and get things done. I love our country and I have no doubt that we will build a better future for our children and grandchildren. So the question is easy: do we face challenges honestly and responsibly, or not? For me there is only one answer.
Liz Truss: We face great challenges as a country. Now is not the time for the continuation of our current economic policy. We have to be brave, we have to do things differently, we have to cut taxes, we have to unleash growth. I’m ready to go to Downing Street the first day and get the job done. I have a delivery record in every department I have been to.
