A 38-year-old man, who has not been identified, was arrested yesterday at 8.30pm in Proserpine.
Queensland Police say he was arrested in Mackay “without incident” and are assisting with inquiries following the discovery of the body of a 44-year-old woman in Bluewater, near Townsville.

Police also allege the man was involved in a shootout with a passing motorist on the Bruce Highway near Yarlboroo yesterday morning.
“He allegedly pointed a shotgun at a passing motorist, allegedly firing a shot into the side of his vehicle,” he said.
“The victim, who was not known to the man, was not physically harmed during the incident.”

Queensland Police say the woman is believed to have died at the scene.
“It appears she would have known who her attacker was,” Queensland Police Service Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said.
“They probably went to this place together.
“We believe he died at this location.”
A weapon was used in the crime, but police have not confirmed what it was.
At this stage, police do not believe the woman’s death is related to domestic violence.
The woman’s four children, aged between 14 and 24, do not live in the area.
Detectives attached to Townsville’s Operation Uniform Umbara will travel to Mackay today to continue investigations.
