The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 stole the show at Unpacked 2022 (rightly so, it looked gorgeous), but it wasn’t the only thing Samsung announced. There was also one more phone, three watches and a new set of headphones in the mix.
Samsung Galaxy Flip 4
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is the foldable phone for the mainstream. Its vertically folding design transforms its 6.7-inch screen into the size of a roller coaster and fits easily into the smallest of pockets. This time, the hinge, as well as the flexible glass, have been improved to be more durable. Samsung says it can handle up to 200,000 folds.

Samsung displays are known for their quality and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is no exception, offering a 120Hz refresh rate for silky-smooth animations and full coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut . On the front is a 1.9-inch cover display with a 60Hz refresh rate and the same striking colors as the main screen.
The phone has been made to be more durable overall. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+ and an aluminum frame to build its shell. It should also keep out the rain with its IPX8 water resistance.
For performance, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 system paired with 8GB of memory and up to 512GB of storage. The storage deserves a special mention, as it is double the capacity of the previous generation.
This time, Samsung has increased the battery capacity from 3,300 mAh to 3,700 mAh to mitigate the biggest drawback of the previous iteration: battery life. It’s a modest increase, but we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
The cameras are a little less exciting. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 appears to have inherited the camera system from the previous generation, with a 12MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. There is also a selfie camera on the main screen. It’s not the under-display camera used on the Galaxy Z Fold 4; Samsung has opted for the traditional pinhole camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is available for pre-order starting at C$1,260 for the 8GB/128GB configuration. It is scheduled to ship on August 26th.
Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
Alongside the phones, Samsung has also launched the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro.
The Watch 5 comes in 44mm and 40mm watch faces, while the Watch 5 Pro only comes in 45mm, which is better suited for larger wrists.
Being the higher end of the two, the Watch 5 Pro uses a premium titanium case with a sapphire crystal display. Samsung says the sapphire crystal screen is 1.6 times stronger, to withstand accidental scratches and bumps. The Watch 5 also uses the sapphire display, but comes with an aluminum casing.
But the biggest advantage of the Watch 5 Pro is its much larger 590 mAh battery. The 40mm Watch 5 has a 284mAh battery, and even the larger 44mm version has a 410mAh cell. However, all watches feature fast wireless charging, capable of reaching 45% of capacity from zero in 30 minutes.
In addition to telling the time, the Galaxy Watch 5 series tracks a host of metrics for more than 90 activities, including swimming, hiking, cycling, golf and yoga. The watch’s BioActive sensor has been improved to be closer to the skin for more accurate readings of heart rate and well-being. In addition, the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) sensor can track body fat, skeletal muscle, body water and more.
In addition to fully customizable watch faces and wallpapers, the Galaxy Watch 5 series also comes with a range of colorful bands. The straps can be easily changed so you can coordinate with the colors of the days of the week.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 starts at C$350 for the Bluetooth version and C$420 for the LTE version. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro starts at C$560 for the Bluetooth version and C$630 for the LTE version. All are available for pre-order now and will ship on August 26th.
Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro
Rounding out the launch are the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Samsung’s premium wireless earbuds. Each earpiece features two-way speakers with a subwoofer and tweeter for a fuller sound range. Additionally, the updated 24-bit audio codec aims to deliver higher audio fidelity.

The headphones themselves provide some degree of passive noise cancellation, but also offer active noise cancellation for noisier environments. Active noise cancellation will automatically turn off when the user starts speaking. And to support remote meetings, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro each carry three high signal-to-noise ratio microphones that eliminate outside sound.
The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are available for pre-order now for C$290 and will ship on August 26.
