NSW Floods LIVE UPDATES: Some parts of Sydney were told to evacuate as floodwaters rise through the city; BOM expects rain to decrease later today

A cargo ship with 21 people on board is adrift near Royal National Park, south of Sydney.

Around 7.30am, NSW police received a notification that the bulk carrier had lost energy and was heading towards the cliffs near the Royal National Park.

It is now double anchored a mile east of the park, and a tugboat is on its way to help point the bow of the boat away from the cliffs.

Police and military helicopters are assisting in the recovery of the crew.

NSW Prime Minister Dominic Perrottet said the ship was in a “precarious” position.

“The NSW government continues to work with Commonwealth agencies to ensure that the situation is rectified as soon as possible to ensure that all 21 crew on board are safe as soon as possible.”
