Petrol bombs thrown at Border Force immigration center in Dover

Petrol bombs have reportedly been thrown at a Border Force immigration center in Dover.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11.22am to The Viaduct in Dover, where crews tackled the blaze.

Reuters news agency, which had a photographer at the scene, reported that a man threw petrol bombs with fireworks at the centre.

The photographer captured the moment the man threw the homemade bomb from the car window. The man is seen holding a lighter as he throws the container into the center.

After the incident, he committed suicide, the agency said.

The police arrived minutes later and cordoned off the area.

Kent Police said: “Officers established that two or three incendiary devices had been thrown at a Home Office immigration premises.

“A minor injury has been reported.

“The suspect has been identified and located. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.”

A Home Office spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident at Western Jet Foil, Dover and the police are attending.

“It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”

It comes as almost a thousand migrants arrived in the UK yesterday, making the treacherous journey across the world’s busiest sea route and landing in Dover.

Nathalie Elphicke, Tory MP for Dover, said she was “deeply shocked”.
