The issue has been percolating ever since Tom Brady took an eleven-day hiatus during training camp. It is reaching an official resolution today.
TMZ.com is reporting that Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and his wife, Gisele Bundchen, have reached an agreement over the dissolution of their marriage. Divorce papers will be filed today.
According to the report, the couple had been working with a mediator to negotiate terms regarding child custody and property distribution. Now they have reached an agreement.
Brady has been the subject of intense speculation about whether and to what extent the personal struggle is affecting his performance on the field. Given that football fans, media and players spend so much time obsessing over every bump or bruise on a player’s body, anything that can limit the quality of play becomes a natural topic of concern.
It’s possible that officially ending the marriage will reduce Brady’s overall stress and strain. Again, it seems strange to think and talk and write about these things. But it is one of the basic realities of a player who stays in football for so many years. Finally, life issues that would occur after retirement will happen during the player’s career.
