Sajid Javid backs Liz Truss as Tory leader with attack on Sunak

Sajid Javid has backed Liz Truss to become the next Tory leader, warning that Rishi Sunak’s economic plans would send Britain “sleepwalking into a high-tax, low-growth economy”.

In an attack on his friend, Javid suggested that Sunak’s refusal to cut taxes risked Britain becoming a “middle-income economy” with a loss of global influence and power.

In an article by the times he clearly added that Truss had “the will to challenge the status quo”, warning that there were “no risk-free options in government”.
