13:04 EDT – Environment and Climate Change of Canada (ECCC) issued tornado surveillance for parts of northwestern Ontario on Friday afternoon.
“Conditions are favorable for the development of severe storms that can produce tornadoes,” ECCC said on its watch. The agency added that “strong winds, heavy hail and heavy rains are also possible.”
CURRENT TURNING WATCHES (ONTARIO):
- Kenora – Nestor Falls
- Fort Frances – Emo – Rainy River
Numerous storms are expected this afternoon and will continue into the early hours of the night. A tornado clock indicates that conditions are favorable for the development of a tornado. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been spotted or indicated by the weather radar. The warning indicates that there is an imminent danger to life and property, and that immediate refuge must be taken.
Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on weather alerts for updates on all clocks and alerts for the duration of this event.

If the early morning storms didn’t wake you up, there’s another chance to see them all day Friday. This is when the threat spreads to the eastern parts of the Prades and northwestern Ontario.
A powerful torment line is expected to form in the high midwestern United States during the day on Friday. Meteorologists expect this storm line to slide across the international border during the afternoon hours.
All severe weather modes are possible Friday, as the storm line moves through southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.
Storms could produce very large hail, some the size of golf balls, strong gusts of wind, heavy rainfall and even the risk of some tornadoes near the international border.
Frequent lightning is also expected, so nighttime activities may be affected.
It will be important to keep up to date with weather clocks and warnings that may affect your area.
Part of the storm risk will occur after dark.
Intense night storms are especially dangerous because it’s easy to lose warnings while you’re asleep and it’s harder to see the dangers coming your way.
