Assassin’s Creed will make some changes: say goodbye to modern history.

I love this Ubisoft just found the perfect way to politely admit – and not admit – that Assassin’s Creed’s modern storyline is a waste of time. You know, during the first AC, the whole “jumping back and forth between the present and the past” thing was kind of cute, but after that…it became a pain. We wanted to jump off tall buildings and murder people, not play a headless walking/science simulator. Since then, fans have been making their opinion known, but Ubisoft wasn’t listening… until now.
Assassin’s Creed will no longer have a modern story
Well, to be precise, the modern story will not cease to exist entirely, but it will no longer be told in the Assassin’s Creed games. Instead, Ubisoft’s new cornerstone will now hold the candle of disappointment: Assassin’s Creed Infinity will now take over the current storytelling dutiesbut that’s not as simple as it seems, because… AC Infinity isn’t really a game…
Ubisoft revealed that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will serve as the central platform for the series, and that’s all we know about it. Ubisoft is being deliberately vague in describing the upcoming service, but from the sounds of it, AC Infinity is a glorified, interactive game store from which you can enter/purchase all future AC releases. Meanwhile, modern history will be told exclusively within this center. In other words, you stay in the center to get your modern kicks, then jump into any Assassin’s Creed game for an exclusive assassin experience.
From the sounds of it, AC Infinity will be the modern world we all know and loathe, and you can simply walk around and choose to jump into the portal of your choice to enter the killer experience of your choice.
People who like to just dive into the past will be able to jump right in and never be interrupted or need to know who Desmond and Layla are. How we tell the story will evolve over time. But the abstraction we want people to have is [Infinity] it is your Animus. It’s your DNA explorer on your desktop. You are the main character of the story.
