The suspect in a bank robbery that took place on the afternoon of Thursday, September 29, 2022, has been arrested, according to Kingston Police.
“On September 29, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Kingston Police Department located and arrested the accused individual without incident,” police said in a news release.
James Leeder, 30, of Kingston, was arrested and charged with the following offenses;
- theft,
- The possession of a weapon,
- Carrying a concealed weapon, i
- Wear a mask/costume.
Leeder was taken to Kingston police headquarters, where he was held overnight for a bail hearing. According to police, Leeder attended a bail hearing today and was later taken into custody.
Kingston Police are grateful to members of the public for their assistance.

Kingston Police are currently investigating a bank robbery that occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, September 29, 2022.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., when a lone male entered the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) location at 65 Princess Street in downtown Kingston.
“No one was injured and the suspect fled through the side entrance on King Street,” police said in a press release shortly before 5pm on the same day.
The suspect, shown in surveillance footage above, is described as “an English-speaking Caucasian male, 20-30 years old, last seen wearing a black North Face sweater, Raptors cap, dark jeans and with a reusable shopping bag.”
Police did not say if the suspect was armed at the time of the robbery or if he was considered armed at the time, but they did say the public should not approach the suspect if they see him, but instead call 911 .
Kingstonist has asked police if the suspect was armed and still considered armed, if he was acting alone and whether or not currency was taken.
The RBC downtown branch will be closed on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1, 2022.
