A gruesome video of Brothers Keepers gangster Meninder Dhaliwal, 29, and a second man lying face down began circulating shortly after the midday shooting in a busy Whistler shopping area.

Shots were also circulated of a black SUV that was pulled over by police near Squamish a short time later.

Sources confirmed that Dhaliwal, whose brother Harb was killed in Vancouver last year, died of his injuries. The condition and identity of the second victim have not been confirmed. A friend told Postmedia that he was not involved in gangs, although he knew the Dhaliwals. He was in Whistler celebrating his birthday.

Sea to Sky RCMP Media Officer Cpl. Angela Kermer said in a press release that the shooting took place around 12:19 pm. He did not provide details on the number of victims.

People in the area told Postmedia that the shooting happened near the Sundial Hotel and that Whistler had been locked down for several hours after the shooting. And they said a burning car was later found in the Blueberry Hill area — the hallmark of recent gangland killings has been a suspicious car set on fire after the crash.

Whistler-Blackcomb spokeswoman Sara Roston said the resort will remain closed for the rest of the day.

The accused hitman, François Gauthier, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last month and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 20 years.

The two remaining brothers, Barinder and Meninder, were among the six gangsters featured on a Vancouver police warning poster in May 2021. Both have been shot several times over the years.

Chief Adam Palmer said at the time that “the photos we are releasing today represent those who pose significant risks to public safety here in the City of Vancouver,” Palmer said. “Not only are they a risk to their friends, family and acquaintances, but they’re also a risk to people who don’t even know them… every time they go to the gym, go shopping, go to the grocery store . a restaurant or a bar”.

Palmer said that in all six cases, it is “highly likely that a rival gangster will try to attack them with extreme violence. And we know that these violent acts are happening brazenly in public places in broad daylight in busy areas.”

Meninder was also suspected of possessing a firearm near the Surrey clubhouse of the Hardside Hells Angels chapter in November 2020. But he was never charged.

Two loaded guns were found inside a Jeep carrying Meninder and Hells Angel prospect Gurpreet Dhaliwal when it crashed a few blocks from the clubhouse.

When firefighters arrived shortly after 8am, Meninder, who is believed to be driving, had fled. Gurpreet was on the scene in his Hells Angels prospective vest. He was also found with a small bag of what was believed to be cocaine and “white powder visible in the nostrils”.

“Police found two cans of vodka soda and two firearms in the Jeep. One firearm was on the floor of the driver’s seat and the other was on the floor of the passenger seat. Both firearms were fully loaded semi-automatic handguns with banned magazines,” Court of Appeal Judge Anne MacKenzie said in a ruling last month.

“Meninder’s fingerprint was located on the magazine of the firearm on the passenger side. Neither Meninder nor Gurpreet had a valid firearms licence.”

The BC Supreme Court threw out a search warrant that police obtained for the motorcycle clubhouse, where both men had been before the crash. Last month, the Court of Appeal upheld that decision.
