Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch the Xiaomi 13 range of smartphones at an event later this week.
The manufacturer has taken to Chinese social network Weibo to confirm that it will announce the Xiaomi 13 series in China on Thursday, December 1 at 19:00 Beijing time (11:00 GMT).
Xiaomi also confirmed what the lineup will look like this year. Apparently, it will consist of the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro, as well as the new MIUI 14 UI.
The timing of this event falls slightly earlier than last year’s Xiaomi 12 series event, which took place at the end of December. There is also no mention of the Xiaomi 13X this time around, which would have followed last year’s more affordable and pocket-sized Xiaomi 12X.
Xiaomi continues to explain some of the specifications. As Android Authority points out, the Xiaomi 13 will feature a flat OLED display and a 1.61mm-thick surrounding bezel.
Interestingly, the series will also get IP68 authentication, the omission of which was criticized in the otherwise very tidy Xiaomi 12.
We expect the Xiaomi 13 series to be powered by the latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. We also heard from a reliable insider that the Xiaomi 13 Pro will feature a camera with a beefy Sony IMX989 image sensor as part of a triple 50 MP matrix.
The same tipster also claimed that the Pro would give us a 4,800mAh battery and 120W charging.
In any case, we won’t have much time to find out for sure with the launch of the Xiaomi 13 just two days away at the time of writing. We’ll let you know about its launch on Thursday as soon as we have more information.
