YouTube Shorts is now coming to big screen smart TVs

Google’s YouTube Shorts has been an instant hit among phone users since it was launched in late 2020. Thanks to the ban on rival TikTok in markets like India, the growth has been huge.

It recently launched a lucrative program, which offers video creators a 45% share of revenue from ad sales on the platform.

Now, the search engine giant plans to extend the reach of YouTube creators by bringing support for short-form videos to smart TVs.

Based on user feedback and testing, Google has ensured that unconventional vertical video content in YouTube Shorts is balanced to provide a better viewing experience on the big screen with features such as comments, community actions (p (eg like, subscribe) and find related videos.

Vertical videos cover the maximum area of the TV screen and the rest includes a matching colored background. The right side of the video includes the title and the creator’s name.

When we introduced this new format, we optimized the experience for the mobile creator and viewer. Today, we’re expanding access to viewing to short films on our fastest growing surface: the TV screen While this may seem like a natural next step, an incredible amount of thought and care has gone into bringing this experience vertically, with mobile first on the big screen In this next installment of our Innovation Series, you” I’ll hear from two of the user experience (UX) design leaders who made this leap a reality,” said Neal Mohan, director of YouTube product.

Support for YouTube Shorts on smart TVs (2019 and later models) will be enabled with a software update in the coming weeks.
