The NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans have been around for a few years now and have gone from being a niche option only for the most discerning internet users to being available on almost every telco, with a dramatic improvement in overnight speeds .
While the NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans are still limited to FTTP and HFC addresses, basically everyone with these types of technology should be able to get a high speed plan if they want it. NBN 250 plans are available to all FTTP and HFC addresses, and NBN 1000 plans are available to all FTTP addresses and over 95% of HFC addresses.
If you’re someone who wants fast internet above all else, we’ll take a look at the best NBN 250 and NBN 1000 plans out there, breaking them down by fastest and price.
The best NBN 1000 plans
Cheap NBN 1000 Plans
If you’re looking for pure value, MyRepublic has one of the cheapest NBN 1000 plans. You’ll pay just $99 per month for the first six months and $109 per month after that. Even at full price, that’s cheaper than many NBN 250 plans. MyRepublic reports typical nighttime speeds of 350Mbps, which is a nice step up from the standard 200Mbps to the 250Mbps you see on most plans.
Southern Phone will charge $105 per month for the first six months and $135 per month thereafter. The provider has yet to reveal typical afternoon speeds for its NBN 1000 plans as it does not yet have sufficient data for the speed tier. This makes it a bit difficult to know what to expect in terms of peak hour performance.
TPG is slightly more expensive at $114.99 per month for the first six months, but then jumps to $144.99 per month after the discount period ends. TPG reports typical overnight speeds of 250Mbps.
Exetel is also worth considering, with its plan billed at $119.95 per month for the first six months and $139.95 per month thereafter. The only problem with this plan is that you will be limited to maximum speeds of 500 Mbps. Exetel reports typical overnight speeds of 245Mbps.
Fast NBN 1000 plans
If you’re looking for the fastest NBN 1000 plans, Superloop, Aussie Broadband and Origin are your three key options.
Superloop reports typical overnight speeds of 500 Mbps. It will charge you $119.95 per month for the first six months and $139.95 per month after that. However, you will be subject to a 3TB allowance. After reaching this limit, you will be limited to 100 Mbps speeds.
Australian broadband is even faster, with typical overnight speeds of 600Mbps. However, it is more expensive, billing $149 per month.
Origin also reports typical nighttime speeds of 600Mbps, and you’ll pay $154 a month. However, you can save $10 per month by combining it with an energy plan.
The best NBN 250 plans
Cheap NBN 250 Plans
MyRepublic is again one of the cheapest options if you’re looking for high speed NBN. You’ll pay $89 a month for their NBN 250 plans and $99 a month after that. It has a typical overnight speed of 200 Mbps.
Tangerine, which has a typical nighttime speed of 205 Mbps, also currently offers a discounted plan. For the first six months you’re with the provider, you’ll pay just $89.90 per month, then $109.90 per month after the offer period ends.
Also worth considering is MATE’s NBN 250 plan, where you’ll only pay $99 a month. You can also save an additional $10 per month by bundling with a MATE SIM-only plan. These start at $20 a month with 10GB and work on the Telstra network.
Fast NBN 250 plans
If you’re looking for the fastest NBN 250 plans, Aussie Broadband is a great bet with typical evening speeds of 244Mbps. You’ll pay $129 per month.
Origin also reports typical overnight speeds of 244Mbps, but charges $134 per month. However, you can save $10 a month by bundling energy with this NBN 250 plan.
Telstra is the only major provider to beat Aussie Broadband and Origin, with typical nighttime speeds of 250Mbps. You’ll pay $110 per month for the first six months, then $140 per month thereafter. If you leave within the first two years, you will have to return the modem to Telstra or pay a non-return fee.
The best NBN 100 plans
Cheap NBN 100 Plans
Of course, many of us still can’t get a plan faster than NBN 100. As such, we’ll also be looking at some of the best NBN 100 deals.
The first is MyRepublic. You’re looking at $69 per month for the first six months and $79 per month after that. Even at full price, it’s cheaper than many other NBN 100 plans. MyRepublic reports typical nighttime speeds of 93Mbps.
If you don’t mind paying a bit more at full price, Dodo currently offers an NBN 100 plan for $63.90 a month for the first six months and $85 a month after that. Dodo reports a pretty solid typical overnight speed of 95 Mbps.
Exetel also offers a discount for the first six months of connection with the provider. You’ll pay $68.95 per month, then $84.95 per month. Exetel has a typical overnight speed of 100Mbps, making it one of the fastest plans at this speed level.
Fast NBN 100 plans
If you want faster overnight speeds, you can opt for Exetel. You’ll pay $68.95 for the first six months and $84.95 per month after that. Exetel reports typical overnight speeds of 100Mbps, making it seemingly congestion-free.
SpinTel also offers a discount for the first six months of connection with the provider. You’ll pay $69 per month, then $84.95 per month. SpinTel also has a typical overnight speed of 100 Mbps, making it one of the fastest plans in this speed tier.
